Exxon Mobil Corp. on Friday posted the largest annual profit by a U.S. company - $40.6 billion - as the world’s largest publicly traded oil company benefited from historic crude prices at year’s end.
Exxon Mobil also set a U.S. record for the biggest quarterly profit, posting net income of $11.7 billion for the final three months of 2007, besting its own mark of $10.71 billion in the fourth quarter of 2005.

Discovery backs theory oil not 'fossil fuel'- New evidence supports premise that Earth produces endless supply

A study published in Science Magazine today presents new evidence supporting the abiotic theory for the origin of oil, which asserts oil is a natural product the Earth generates constantly rather than a "fossil fuel" derived from decaying ancient forests and dead dinosaurs.
The lead scientist on the study ? Giora Proskurowski of the School of Oceanography at the University of Washington in Seattle ? says the hydrogen-rich fluids venting at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean in the Lost City Hydrothermal Field were produced by the abiotic synthesis of hydrocarbons in the mantle of the earth.

Global oil prices at historic peak
Global oil prices have hit a new record high as the greenback continues to fall and amid concerns that OPEC will hold output.
Light sweet crude for April delivery in April traded 103.95 dollars per barrel in New York as weakness of the dollar continues to provide upward support for prices.
London's Brent North Sea crude for April delivery increased to a record 102.29 dollars per barrel.
The dollar also fell to a record low against the European single currency on Monday. The euro reached an all-time high point of 1.5274 dollars.
Meanwhile, members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries hinted that the producer group which pumps 40 percent of the world's oil would either keep or lower output.
